Teething in Babies Is your baby chewing on their fingers or toys and drooling profusely? These signs often indicate teething. It's a completely normal phenomenon, although sometimes painful and a source of tears. What You Need to Know The eruption of milk teeth in infants and young children is generally accompanied by mild symptoms, such as itching in the gums. On examination, the gum appears red and swollen at the spot where the tooth is breaking through. The child may be restless, have trouble sleeping, and sometimes experience tearing or nasal discharge. Associated symptoms may occur: diarrhea, diaper rash, and more rarely a slight fever (below 38°C). These symptoms are not always directly related to teething. Prohibitions and Precautions Teething does not cause serious complications, so there's no need to worry excessively. However, if the fever or diarrhea persists without improvement, consult a doctor. These signs often indicate an associated viral infection (rhinopharyngitis, bronchitis, etc.). Good Practices - Teething rings: Prefer a cooling ring placed in the refrigerator (not the freezer) rather than the traditional finger to soothe the gums. - Gum massage: With a clean finger, gently apply an anesthetic gingival solution suitable for babies. Medications - Gently massage the gums with a solution based on amylène, such as DOLODENT®. - Homeopathic preparations exist (suppositories or oral solution), but their effectiveness has not been scientifically demonstrated. | Reference | Product | |-----------|----------------------------------| | 86 | Baby's dental pain reliever | | 86 | DOLODENT® | (Add to your favorites for quick access.)
